Oh The Places You'll Go

We are trying to plan for our vacation(s) this year, keeping in mind that from June on, we will have two children in our lives. I am itching to escape for a long weekend as a threesome, just one more time, down to Florida (the only place within our reach where the water is warm in Feb/March and the airfare is cheap - about $360 total for the three of us). We are still deliberating about this, not sure if a seven months-pregnant gal should even be on a plane.

But where to go with a small infant, as our first foursome adventure this Autumn?

We have found traveling with an infant to be rather easy. It is once those little buggers start to walk that the experience of travel can become, ummm, more interesting at times.

Destinations on the table for late 2007:

Charleston, South Carolina (always wanted to go. seems like a lovely place ripe with history)
Williamsburg, Virginia
San Diego, California (long shot, but I am leaving it out there as a possibility)
Pittsburgh, PA (great zoo there and the cool Inclines)
Chicago, IL (one of my favorite places in the country)
Sarasota or Fort Lauderdale, FL (cannot go wrong with the beach!)

Any thoughts on these locations? Any places you would suggest?

another beach spot that is wonderful, cheaper and better than New Jersey, warm water (80 degrees)
and not too far away, The Brunswick Ilands, North Carolina.
One of the beaches is called Ocean Isle Beach, another is Holden Beach. Great for families.

We did the San Diego trip last fall just the two of us and thought it would be a great family vacation spot. We're going back late April with the kids 2, 4 and 5. It was such an easily navigable city and what I like about it is that it seems to have just enough to do, with each thing being a separate event - as opposed to all the Orlando attractions where life is so overwhelming and everything runs together. 'Course this is a longer plane trip for you...

williamsburg is cool, for adults, but kids that young really wouldn't enjoy it or get it too much. Cali, to far away. Florida go to Disney when the kids are older. In Pittsburgh, they have Kennywood Park, which is a great amusment park. Their zoo does not compare to the Phila Zoo, but it is okay.

Orlando is definitely not an option. We are not Disney folks, at all. If I am heading to Florida, it is to be on the beach - the earth's natural amusement park.

I think the Pittsburgh Zoo is much nicer than the Philly Zoo.

We also did San Diego as a couple and fell in love with the place. I love the airport, the fact that you can get so close and watch planes fly in over the downtown area and right over your head. A very cool and totally free experience.

Pittsburgh zoo is a joke.
If you like Pennsyltucky, then
why don't you move there?

Just checked out the Brunswick Islands NC and wow, that does look really nice. Thanks for the tip.

love, love, love Charleston! And Savannah, and St. Augustine. We go to St. Augustine nearly every weekend - particularly during nights of lights in December and January. St. Augustine isn't as beautiful as usual lately as the bridge of lions is under construction. Charleston, Beaufort (SC), Hunting Island (just outside Beaufort), and Savannah are farther away so we only get there once or twice a year, often on our way up to Asheville, Highlands, and the Blue Ridge Parkway - some other favorites of ours. The mountains up there are particularly spectacular during the 3rd week of October and the summer.
