Over the past few months the Bear has been having a seriously difficult time making it through an entire day without peeing herself. Her underwear is almost always damp and is far too often soaked through to her tights (remaining concealed under her dress) by the time we bring her home from school. Considering she's been using the toilet since she was two years old, which was 2 years ago, this issue is most baffling for The Mrs. and I.
The Bear swears she feels it coming but seemingly refuses to dart over to the nearest potty at that moment. Part of me thinks the pissy panties are an attention-getting ploy now that the Mouse is mobile and requiring more and more active parenting to keep her out of the drawers, bathrooms, etc. Another part, the more reasonable and more hopeful side of me, thinks this is just a case of the Bear not deeming a pee pause-worthy while enjoying a game, puzzle, conversation, book, whatever.
I hope it's the later because a smart little girl can't possibly sit in smelly, moist pants all day just to get an ear full from Mom at night. She can't actually crave that kind of attention, right?
I find it hard to believe considering we praise her and give high-fives when she's dry at the end of the day. Surely that attention is greater than the other kind.
Does this mean she is going to have bad taste in dudes later in life and be one of those women who secretly likes to be verbally abused because, as some of those poor gals would say (if daytime TV is any indication), at least their men are paying attention to them?
Sweet Jesus I hope not.

Roo had a couple of episodes which seemed related to new baby blues but nothing as consistent... have you talked to Bear's teachers to see if there's anything new in the classroom? Other kids who have frequent accidents who get a lot of attention, maybe? Or maybe Bear just needs to get in pull-down skirts or pants without tights because she's so incredibly busy that she can't spare the time to fumble with them?
Have you had her checked for a UTI? My now 7 year old is on daily antibiotics - 3 years and counting now - due to chronic UTIs. The condition has caused a lot of accidents for her, since she was long past potty training.
She also delays stopping whatever fun thing she's doing to go to the bathroom. She's, ummmm, highly focused.
She's been accident-free for some time now, but as soon as we try to wean her off the meds she gets another UTI. Virtually immediately. And Every. Single. Time. And before it gets to the point of being painful to her, she has accidents.
We're hoping she outgrows it soon. I don't like her being on antibiotics every day, but I also don't want her to suffer the social downsides of accidents.
Please take the Bear to your ped for a urine check. They can usually do a quick dip there in the office, or may send a sample to a lab for a 24 hour culture.

I agree with Jill--you should investigate the possibility of a UTI. I know that both of my kids do the refusing-to-pee thing when they are having fun, and it's very irritating when it goes on too long, and results in accidents.
Thanks for the commments and suggestions. The Bear has UTI history and we will indeed get her checked out again. While medicine doesn't thrill me, a logical explaination for her issue is a pleasant thought.
